Hustlers Pool Hall- 8 Ball Mayhem

On a hot Spring day, when the neighbourhood were out sunning themselves the real action was happening in Hustlers Pool Hall. Some say Pool is a winter sport but Hustlers Pool Hall farts in their general direction. Throwing caution to the wind we held our first 8 Ball tournament of the season over the Easter Holidays on a day so hot I think even the (pool) balls were sweating.

After a few hours of banging balls and letting off some steam, the last 8 were as follows:

 ¼ Finals:

Mark (The Bear) McDonald 9 V Darren (The Instructor) Markey 6: This score line does not look the best on paper. But our new player Darren had a great day of pool,  progressing through his tough group with a super cool temperament and attitude to find he had a brick wall or should I say a Grizzly Bear. All that aside, well done Darren you should be proud of your performance.

Paddy (The Magician) McLoughlin 9 V Liam (Wee Wheels) McVeigh 2: Paddy turned his game up a notch to overcome Liam McVeigh with an outstanding performance.

Paul Strawbridge 4 V Gary (Hudd) Millen 9: This was a battle of friendship, lust and power but in the end Paul gave in to lust and was too busy eating his mince and onion pie and Hudd ran away with the match.

Gary (Snore) Johnston 9 V Dan (The Man) Gorman 4: This was a good win for Gary considering he no longer practices due to working every hour in the week. Dan on the other hand found himself jetlagged after all the 10 minutes travel from his home to the venue.

 Semi Final:

Mark McDonald 9 V Gary Johnston 6: The Bear continued his steady performance in the semi-final and overcame Gary with a 9-6 win.

Paddy McLoughlin 4 V Gary Millen 9: This was a match that could well have been the final but when Paddy got a bad kick on the four ball when he was 4-3 down there was no looking back for the man they call the most naturally talented cueist in Ireland. With this super win over Irelands No.1, is this the start of a new era for the Hudd.

 Final:

Mark Mc Donald 6 V Gary Millen 9: The score line says it al,l our winner of the 2011 April 8Ball Open was Gary (Hudd) Millen. Not too bad for a guy who hasn’t played on a 9ft table in 3 ½ years.

Well done Gary and to all who took part in this event.

Next event is 21st May @ 11am.

Cheers Hustlers

Dublin's Darren Feehan and Derry's Phil McConomy fight it out for 1st place in the final.

Congratulations to everyone who entered the tournament on Saturday, it was great to see you all here.

We had over 23 players who entered, who came from far and wide. The Tournament final was played after 10 hours of hard fought pool leaving Dublin’s Darren Feehan and Derry’s Phil McConomy to battle it out. Both players had tight matches on their way to the final but overall they both deserved to be battling for first place. Darren just edged it though with the final score 9 – 5.

3rd place Paddy Mcloughlin
4th place Shane Connor
5th place Paul Strawbridge

Thanks again. Hustlers Pool Hall.

Semi Finalists ( LtoR) Mark McDonald, Paul Haughton and Finalists David Poole and Paddy Mcloughlin

Hustlers Pool Hall Belfast hosted the last leg of the Irish American Pool Tour over the weekend. Despite treacherous weather conditions, players came from all over Ireland to  make for what was an exciting weekend of pool. With over 24 of the top players in attendance, the tournament kicked off on the Saturday with an electric atmosphere.  Two of the most excitiing players on the Tour reached the final, David Poole from Dublin and Paddy Mcloughlin of Newry, who played some breathtaking games of pool on their way to the final spot. Unfortunately due to a few matches that took longer than expecected,  we ran out of time to play the final on the Sunday.  Hopefully both players will come back before Christmas to play for the title. Its a match not to be missed. We would like to thank every player who turned up and played over the weekend- it was a great effort by all.

All in all, the weekend was a great success.  Hopefully this is something the American Pool Community can build on. With more tournaments and leagues scheduled for next year, Hustlers Pool Hall is dedicated to providing top class facilities for all these events, which will be shown by our investment in more tables and equipment.  We would like  to provide a professional setting for all the top players and this tournament was a good start for all involved.

30th Oct 2010 will be remembered for the extragavent opening tournament held in Hustlers Pool Hall Belfast.

After a series of knockout battles the final 6 players were Bear Bum,  Big Stevie tutu, Smudgey, Billy, JuniorCoco, and Dan.

Smudgey and JuniorCoco just didnt have their usual killer touch and got whitewashed in every game. Although Smudgey beat Junior, its not really much to shout about!

SEMI FINAL 1:  Bear Bum 7  Big Stevie Tutu 1        Big Stevie Tutu had been playing golf all morning, and a phonecall halfway through this match to organise beers for a night out stole his concentration, and Bear Bum sniped in through the backdoor (as he always does) and pranced into the final like a new born gazelle.

SEMI FINAL 2:  Dan 7 v Billy 5.   No mercy for the oul boy tonight as Dan left his morals at the door before thumping his Da 7-5.   Dan forgets his Da pays for his food, electric, food, clothes and most proabably paid for all his cues. Anyway it was a tight match and could have gone either way.

FINAL:  Bear Bum 3v Dan5  This game was nearly a no go as time was getting close to the start of the xFactor, and the 2 boys love nothing more than slipping into their silk jammies, popping open a bottle of sparkling pink wine, and box of tissues on standby for the teary bits.  They decided  to play a race to five and when a small crowd gathered to watch them they both upped their game and shot some great pool.  Well done to Dan who played some great pool on the day.

WINNERS PRIZE-  finalists shared the £100 cash prize!

Most Improved Player Award:  Junior Coco! for taking a game off Bear Bum in great style and sticking to the true spirit of the game by going for shots. He is a player to watch for the future.

Mickey and Gerry shake hands before the final.

Last week we ran our first Under 18 mini tournaments with a few of the local kids. The winner recieved the unbelievebly generous first prize of a half box of Salt and Vinegar Pringles!

The first draw on the 9 ball tournament was:

Conor v John-  Conor wins

Mark v Mickey-  Mickey wins in style

Paddy v Rory- Crusies to a win

Decky v Gerry- Gerry pips Decky at the post

SEMI FINALS

Mickey v Conor-  Mickey pots the 9 ball half way through the game  ( stop crying C0nor!)

Paddy v Gerry- Paddy had a few chances to win the game, but fair play to Gerry, he flukes the 9 ball!

FINAL:

Gerry v Mickey-  Mickey looked hot fav to take the title and blazed into a great start, potting some class shots. Again it came down to the 9 ball, and after blasting the ball round the table,  it dropped in again for Gerry!

Well done to Gerry, who had the killer touch on the night!

Ps.  The next night, after another mini final, Daniel, Mark and Paddy got to the final and they had a mini league to see who would top the table.  Paddy came out strongest in the end and redeemed himself after going out in the semi the night before. Paddy won a Curry Pot Noodle and £2.50  ( and wee Mark owes him 50p!)

Well done to all who entered.
